Where to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Houston
Commemorating the Mexican defeat of a French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, Cinco de Mayo may not be widely celebrated in Mexico, but sure is in Houston, where it's become more of a way to honor Mexican-American culture (and a way to enjoy a margarita or two). This year's holiday...

Help the Local Fight Against AIDS by Dining Out For Life
While the PSAs are not as ubiquitous as they once were, the fight against HIV and AIDS continues. There are plenty of people who have the diseases that still need help to live, and luckily for them, there are organizations coast to coast that provide that help, at great cost.

Texas red snapper season extended to 82 days, longest since 2007
After more than two decades of seeing opportunities to catch and retain red snapper from federally controlled waters of the Gulf of Mexico increasingly restricted even as the popular reef fishes' once-struggling population soared, Texas' long-suffering offshore recreational anglers this week saw that pendulum swing slightly but significantly the other direction.

Perfect weather for tonight's free outdoor screening in the garden at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft! Among great experimental films by Marie Menken, Stan Brakhage, Ben Russell, Joel Schlemowitz, and others, we're very happy to feature a 16mm print of the fantastic "Another Void" by San Francisco filmmaker Paul Clipson, who sadly passed away this February.

Rattlers and ticks part of spring turkey hunting
Any hunter with a lick of woodsmanship could recognize the Ashe juniper was a perfect spot to set up an ambush. And any turkey hunter afield in Texas during spring season should approach such a spot remembering that an ambush can work both ways. We are not the only hunters afield on Texas' spring landscape.

John Nechman's 100 Best Restaurants in Houston
There's something gloriously, uproariously queer about Houston's dining scene. It gives us our edge, it's hard to define, and it's undeniably present. It's transgressive, ebullient, explosive, unpredictable, and captivating-but because we're surrounded by it and it's part of our DNA, the rest of the world celebrates the gastronomic gift of "Mutt City" cuisine more than we do.
