"He’s having the pork-and-beef sausage made to his recipe by Burt’s Meat Market in Fifth Ward." Great (and tasty!) shout out to a historic and important Fifth Ward business. #nickelproud https://goo.gl/bJDHQQ Burt's Meat Mkt & Cajun Foods Henderson & Kane General Store

Old Sixth Ward's Henderson & Kane General Store serves barbecue with a side of tradition and history
The Old Sixth Ward just east of downtown may be Houston's best-kept secret. This tiny pocket of mostly late-19th-century Victorian homes is easily missed by those of us zooming past on Memorial to the south and a raucous stretch of Washington to the north.

All we can say is, it must have seemed like a good idea at the time. Yes, this feral cat managed to get his head stuck inside a mayonnaise jar. The kind people at Tabby's Place cat sanctuary rescued him and brought him to our sister hospital, the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center in Levittown, PA. Our vets sedated the cat and snipped off the plastic jar. Nice work everyone!

Juneteenth celebrations began this weekend and continue through it's official commemorative day - tomorrow. What are your plans? http://bit.ly/2MyyirA

Juneteenth in Houston: Parade, prayer and a sense of urgency
The trappings of any summertime parade were there: the marching bands, the swivel-hipped cheerleaders dancing to a beat, the politicians waving from bunting-clad convertibles. Yet, this year's Houston Juneteenth festivities Saturday - in a city at the beginning of the now-national celebration to mark the emancipation of slaves - carried a distinct air of urgency.
