Mayor to lead Complete Communities neighborhood meeting in Gulfton Thursday night
HOUSTON - The public is invited to join Mayor Sylvester Turner, City of Houston departments, partnering agencies, and community representatives at the Complete Communities meeting in the Gulfton neighborhood south of downtown.
The meeting will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at Southwest Multi-Service Center, 6400 High Star Drive, Houston, TX 77074.
Food will be served at 6 p.m.
Gulfton is one of five pilot program locations for the initiative. Acres Home, Second Ward, Third Ward and Near Northside are the others.
Complete Communities was launched by Mayor Turner on April 17, 2017, to strengthen Houston’s under-resourced neighborhoods. The city will work in a concentrated manner with stakeholders in each community and partners across Houston to create more complete neighborhoods with enhanced access to quality affordable homes, jobs, well-maintained parks and greenspace, improved streets and sidewalks, grocery stores and other retail, good schools, and transit options. The work in these pilot areas will help develop solutions that are transferable to other communities across the city.
The meetings give residents from pilot neighborhoods the opportunity to share their unique vision for their neighborhood. The vision and input they provide will help define how to make their neighborhood a Complete Community. The city is asking partners and residents to help publicize these neighborhood meetings by sharing the information from the Planning & Development Department Facebook page on social media using the hashtags #completecommunitiesand #yourneighborhoodname!
