Czech Center Museum Houston added an event.

Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 Saint Nicholas Eve This Annual Event with visit by St. Nicholas and his cohorts the angel and devil be held as always on December 6th featuring a Christmas Bazaar. Come celebrate with a Holiday dinner repast, a seasonal punch and a Cash Bar of Czech Beers & Wines. Draw from the spirit of Houston’s 104 Heritages – Czech Slovak, German, Polish, English, Spanish and others Christmas Music and a visit by Intrepid Svaty Mikulas, his Sidekicks the sweet Angel (anděl) & incorrigible Devil (ďábel). Enjoy this evening at the Czech Center Museum Houston Decorated in Moravian Stars and twinkling lights of the magnificent Bohemian chandeliers. Who was Saint Nicholas? The story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, born during the third century in the village of Patara. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus’ words to “sell what you own and give the money to the poor”, Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering/ He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop pf Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children and his concern for sailors and ships. The Roman Emperor ruthlessly persecuted Christians so he suffered for his faith, exiled and imprisoned. St. Nicholas is Patron of Seamen, the Protector of Children & Ferrymen. Date: Wednesday, December 6th Time: from 6:30PM until 8:30PM Admission :$35 for adults & $10 for children (the price includes a full dinner, a child’s gift & complimentary Valet Parking)

Mickalene Thomas: Waiting on a Prime-Time Star features paintings, photographs, collages, prints, and mixed-media works that explore the artist's complex vision of female sexuality, identity, and power. Thomas's portraits, landscapes, and interiors examine how black women are represented in art and popular culture and confront our assumptions about what defines the female experience in the 21st century.
