Highlighting Vets’ Struggles and Celebrating Their Service: The Story Behind the Montrose Bridge Marine
This past March, Marine veteran Mark Perez made the local news by protesting in full dress uniform on the “Be Someone” bridge that crosses I-45 near downtown. Standing at salute until forced to move because of an oncoming train, Perez live-streamed his experience on social media before HPD arrived. He was brought to the VA hospital for a psychological evaluation, and released without a citation.
We're still thinking about the performances here at Aurora earlier this week by artist Lillian Warren and choreographer Annie Arnoult. Many thanks to them and to all of you who were part of the experience!

When you think about local honey, you might imagine the liquid gold harvested from the small towns surrounding Houston, often jarred and sold at farmers’ markets and sometimes spotted on the shelves of major grocers. Bee2Bee Collective founder Nicole Buergers is working hard to change that: in 2015, the former B2B marketer jumped from growing brands to bee husbandry, and she’s urging inner-loopers to put honey bees in their backyards.
A reminder to artists, collectives, and curators in the greater Houston area: the deadline for The Idea Fund applications is this coming Monday, November 6 at (11:59PM)! Application via submittable.com here:
