The public is invited to a Celebration of Life honoring Former First Lady Barbara Bush tomorrow (4/19) at 6 pm in front of City Hall. Everyone is encouraged to wear pearls or the color blue as a tribute. Officials have also asked that all offerings of flowers, teddy bears or personal notes be taken to the Houston Public Library's Barbara Bush Plaza located at 500 McKinney Street. #RIPBarbaraBush

The city of Houston plans to host a celebration of former first lady Barbara Bush's life on Thursday, welcoming residents to the steps of City Hall at 6 p.m. Mayor Sylvester Turner announced the event at Wednesday's City Council meeting, where he called Bush not only the "matriarch of her family, but also the matriarch of Houston and Texas itself."

The uplifting celebration will include remarks by William Lawson, Founding Pastor, Wheeler Baptist Church, Samuel Karff, Rabbi Emeritus, Congregation Beth Israel, and Joseph Fiorenza, Archbishop, the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, performances by the Houston Children's Chorus under the direction of Stephen Roddy, interfaith prayers, a reading of a poem written for the occasion and other tributes. WHEN: 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 WHERE: Hermann Square at Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby Media parking will be available on McKinney between Smith and Bagby ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The public is encouraged to wear pearls or the color blue as a tribute to Mrs.Bush.
